FILMIC QUALITIES OF ARTIFICIAL WORLDS: WHY VIRTUAL AND AUGMENTED REALITY?

An increasing number of filmmakers and film exhibitors, among them world-renowned directors and film festivals, have been recently flirting with the newest technologies of artificial reality. Such works offer virtual reality or augmented reality, transmedia storytelling, etc. The question surrounding the filmic qualities of these works runs alongside the prospect of exciting possibilities of intertwining film or video and sound art with virtual worlds and future technologies. They bring new creative methods and possibilities to moving-image practitioners and audiences, be it an immersion in virtual worlds, the development of imaginary characters, or a complex way of telling a story, to serve higher artistic or merely marketing goals. How to treat this (seemingly) fresh phenomenon in the film world? Is it, perhaps, only a new execution of the original cinematic idea? Organized by Otok and the School of Arts, University of Nova Gorica.

The events are open for all interested individuals.
