When the preparations for the filming of Vesna began, Slovene film was very young, as only a few films were shot. The director František Čap held an audition for someone to play Janja and his heart stopped when he saw Metka Gabrijelčič. Her first shots, those virgin moves of her face in the silence, are the magic moment of Slovene film. Enchanted was also the young boy, who wanted to be her Sandi. He could barely speak. He let his chance in front of the camera slip by, but later on behind the camera he became Matjaž Klopčič, the greatest Slovene filmmaker.

The ideas of the new Parisian wave were culminating in him and gave him so much energy that he managed to finish two films in the same year: Zgodba, ki je ni and Na papirnatih avionih. Boštjan Hladnik created modern Slovene film, the new film song of amazing pictures, while Klopčič gave film pictures with the most romantic soul and lyric form.

Zgodba, ki je ni has no climax and anticlimax, no drama, no story so to say. The biggest story is the one that flows in a human being every moment, without order and pause, filled with expectations, memories and fears. Flow of the consciousness, true blood of human being, is a story of Klopčič's film and it brings it together with all youth and age. This is a consciousness of a worker from the outskirts of the land, who has not yet found his place in society or the people who would go with him through life. He has no anchor, which would help him stop his wandering, since he left his mother and his first home. Sprinkles of life and feelings, which can sometimes be expressed by word and sometimes in silence, slowly draw a picture of a soul, waiting for its’ true life, maybe snow, in which he will see everything and hear nothing, where he will be alone and at the same time together with everyone. When it snows, I often hear Klopčič’s images coming.

Matjaž Klopčič

He was born in 1934 in Ljubljana and studied film directing in Paris between 1962 and 1965. Today he is recognized as one of the most established Slovene film directors. His films show him as a very independent author (Zgodba, ki je ni, Na papirnatih avionih, 1967), but on the other hand he shot some of the most popular films, such as Cvetje v jeseni (1973), Vdovstvo Karoline Žašler (1976) and Moj ata, socialistični kulak (1987). His film received awards all over Yugoslavia. For his opus he was given a Prešeren award. He was an architect, screenwriter, director, publicist and professor of film directing at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television.
