The 16th Kino Otok – Isola Cinema IFF postponed

It was Thursday, March 12th, more than two months until the beginning of the 16th Kino Otok – Isola Cinema International Film Festival. This meant that the vast majority of the agreements with Slovenian and international partners were signed, that all project team members confirmed their participation, that calls for the Video on the Beach shorts section as well as for volunteers from near and far were in full swing. Last but not least, this meant that film, professional and social programme was largely curated. And that, after almost a year of preparations of the new edition, the festival core team was already looking forward to meeting all the guests and visitors in Izola from 3rd till 7th June 2020, and in Ljubljana and other towns across Slovenia before and after these dates.

On this same Thursday epidemic was declared in Slovenia, more that a month later public life is still mostly halted, and it became clear that the following months will unfold differently than we until recently expected.

As much as we wished to realize a film gathering on the threshold of summer this year as well, this is sadly not possible due to the epidemic, which is why we are postponing the 16th Kino Otok until further notice. We will decide on new festival dates in 2020 as soon as sufficient information becomes available, and notify the public in due time. We will certainly do our utmost to make the festival happen again this year, with our main goals being the safety of visitors, guests and the team, as well as the most genuine cinematic experience. We would like to thank all the representatives of the public financial supporters and partners, and the members of the festival team for their past and future understanding and support of our efforts in uncertain times.

Until we meet again in person, we kindly invite you to stay in touch online. On our online channels, we will keep you up to date with all the news and opportunities for film aficionados of all ages.

See you on the Island of Cinema!
