07 Jun 15th Kino Otok catches and shares the light of the films for the third day
The 15th edition of the international film festival Kino Otok – Isola Cinema enters the third festival day in Isola where the Kino Otok community is once again created through conversations with guests, film projections and other rich and varied festival programme. In open air cinema Manzioli at 21.00 we will discover the gentle side of human behaviour and longing in the film The Core of the World by Natalia Meshchaninova. Another film follows under the starry night of Manazioli, You Have the Night by the festival guest Ivan Salatić – a road film that leads nowhere, transitions that never end and the quiet always interrupted by noise.
In their first festival day enters FOCUS, a training and networking programme for film professionals established two years ago that forms PRO Otok alongside other sizable programme for film professionals. In FOCUS section there is a masterclass by an award-winning film and television costume designer Janty Yates. She has been collaborating with Ridley Scott since 1998, designing costumes in films such as Hannibal, American Gangster, Prometheus and Gladiator for which she received an Oscar. In the afternoon follows the workshop on film makeup and special effects design with Tina Šubič Dodočić.
The afternoon in Art Cinema Odeon starts with a tribute to the multicultural, raw and deeply spiritual Jamaica with the film Black Mother by Khalik Allah. The Odeon festival programme is once again accompanied by talks with the guests. Anouk de Clercq is presenting her programme of short films Beyond, Between and Beneath. With us will be Nika Novak and Matevž Jerman with their musical-film album Remains – Confessions to the Ghosts. Mario Brenta and Karine de Villers invite us to a journey without dialogue into our current society in the film work The Cat’s Smile. The latter is shown in cooperation with the festival Tribute to a Vision that in 2017 paid a tribute to the vision of filmmaker with the Darko Bratina Award. This year’s guest is also Jelena Maksimović and her film Taurunum Boy. In it we follow the boys and girls from Zemun tide through life in their ecosystem. The Odeon’s screen will move in the afternoon again to the film Balangiga: Howling Wilderness. The film will be show at Kino Otok in cooperation with the festival Kurja Polt.
At the festival location Largo pri Špini Igor Bezinović presents Postcards he created with codirectors after his idea. Postcards that come to life and with a subtle humour take us those corners of the Croatian countryside where the line between myth and reality has long been blurred. At open air Video on the Beach a quest Beyond Conscience awaits, followed by the second night at the Lighthouse where there will be the musical programme of Jimmy Barka Experience and Jeff festival. Meanwhile Tolmin beats with Otok to project Sefie by the Italian filmmaker Agostino Ferrente.
See you at Otok!
