Kino Otok and Cinesquare are Opening the Door for Online Distribution of Festival Talents

International film festival Kino Otok – Isola Cinema in its 14th edition for the first time spreads access to festival films also via digital channels. In partnership with Cinesquare, the first and largest VOD platform in the Balkan region, we are enabling free access to two films connected with this year’s edition. On our Vimeo channel Otok, you will find selected films from this year’s Video on the Beach section and PRO Otok: FOCUS programme.

For the first time ever in Slovenia, film enthusiasts can watch films at the festival and from the comfort of their own home at the same time. In cooperation with VOD platform Cinesquare, we are giving away free access to two films. Johanna (2005) is one of older films from director Kornél Mundruczó, who also directed Jupiter’s Moon (2017) that will be shown last in Kinodvor on 20 June, as part of Otok in Ljubljana. Next, Hobbyhorse Revolution (2017), a film from the section Submarine and a nominee for this year’s EFA Young Audience Award will be projected in Kinodvor on 17 June. Both will be available until 15 June with access codes given to the first five that buy a ticket for any screening at Otok in Ljubljana, and over Facebook.

Cinesquare project is designed as a unique concept that covers 13 territories in Southeast Europe partnership with local and European partners. Cinesquare launched in 2017 in 13 countries as the first and largest VOD in the AV sector with quality content that covers all the territories of Southeast Europe with potential reach to 140 million people.  Most of the films are European; all translated in the languages of the countries covered to provide easier reach and building trust with its users. Cinesquare`s key innovation is its ability to use the internet’s capacity and the good infrastructure in the region and the habits of the Balkan viewer that is very active online for sharing to bring creative cinema to a wider audience.

Until 20 June, we offer unlimited views of selected films from festival guests on our new Vimeo channel Otok. From the section Video on the Beach, we provide films from two leading institutions researching the boldness of film expressions of the new generations: Academy of Arts, University of Nova Gorica, and Luksuz production in Krško. From this year’s PRO Otok: FOCUS on Film Editing and Sound Design you can watch the works of selected participants of the programme from Croatia, Italy and Slovenia.

You are kindly invited to experience our films, on silver screens or online!
